Rúben Neves Honors Late Diogo Jota with New Tattoo
Rúben Neves, Portuguese footballer of Al-Hilal, paid an emotional tribute to his late friend and teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car accident on July 3, 2025. On his left calf, Neves tattooed an image of the two of them hugging, with Jota wearing the number 21 jersey of the National Team. The tattoo is accompanied by the phrase: “You will never be forgotten. We are 23+1.”
The tattoo was revealed during the first National Team training session after Jota's passing, touching everyone present. The Portuguese Football Federation also announced that Neves will inherit the number 21 jersey in honor of Jota.
This gesture symbolizes the deep friendship between the two players, who shared the locker room at FC Porto, Wolverhampton, and the National Team. Neves was also one of the pallbearers at Jota's funeral, just days after competing in the Club World Cup with Al-Hilal in the USA.
The tattoo has become a symbol of friendship and respect, moving fans and fellow professionals in Portugal and beyond.
